Three Kerala Government Ayurveda Colleges (Trivandrum, Tripunithura, Kannur) have signed an MoU with two UAE universities for joint BAMS-equivalent recognition pathways.
Three Government Ayurveda Colleges in Kerala have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two UAE universities (Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine, Dubai + University of Sharjah) to establish formal BAMS-equivalent recognition pathways.
What the MoU covers
Why this matters
The Gulf has ~600,000 Kerala-origin Ayurveda patients seeking authentic care. Until now, qualified practitioners required full Kerala BAMS + DHA licensing — a 7-8 year pathway. The MoU enables a 5-6 year integrated pathway, with potential to substantially expand DHA-licensed Ayurveda doctors in UAE.

Some traditional Kerala vaidyas have raised concerns about diluting hereditary lineage-based knowledge transfer through standardised curricula. KUHS has committed to preserving Ashtavaidya tradition study as elective specialisation within the new framework.
