MoHFW has expanded Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY coverage to include 42 specific Ayurveda procedures including Panchakarma, Sirodhara, and Marma Chikitsa — a major step toward AYUSH integration.
In a landmark expansion, Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY (the central government's flagship health insurance scheme) now covers 42 specific Ayurveda procedures using NAMASTE-standardised procedure codes.
Newly covered procedures
Includes: Panchakarma (Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya), Pizhichil, Njavarakizhi, Sirodhara, Takra Dhara, Udvarthanam, Marma Chikitsa, Kati Basti, Janu Basti, Greeva Basti, Karna Purana, Netra Tarpana, and 28 others.
Eligibility
Ayushman Bharat beneficiary families (annual income < ₹5 lakh) can avail these treatments at empanelled Ayurveda hospitals. Each family is covered up to ₹5 lakh annually.
Empanelled centres in Kerala
As of June 2026, 38 Ayurveda hospitals across Kerala are empanelled, including all three Government Ayurveda Hospitals, six NABH-accredited private hospitals, and 29 district-level Ayurveda facilities.
Why this matters
This is the most significant policy step toward AYUSH integration with mainstream healthcare since the NAMASTE portal launch. For low-income patients with chronic conditions (arthritis, paralysis, chronic skin disease), Panchakarma was previously inaccessible due to cost. PMJAY coverage changes this.
What practitioners should know
Empanelled facilities use NAMASTE codes for documentation. Practitioners need training on PMJAY workflow + standardised reporting. State AYUSH directorates are running training sessions.
