About Chronic Skin Diseases (Twak Roga)

Ayurvedic understanding
Classical Ayurveda groups chronic skin disease under Kushta (18 types described in Charaka). Twak (skin) is an extension of Rakta-dhatu — what appears on skin reflects blood-tissue impurity. Pitta excess + Rakta dushti drive most modern eczema, allergic dermatitis, fungal infections. Topical steroids suppress but never resolve — that's why recurrence is the norm. Ayurvedic Shodhana addresses root cause.
Kerala treatments
Virechana (medicated purgation) is the primary Kerala protocol for chronic skin — clears Pitta + Rakta dushti from the gut + blood. Combined with Raktamokshana (controlled venesection) where appropriate, internal Aragvadhadi or Patolakaturohinyadi Kashayam, and topical Karpooradi or Eladi Tailam.
